In a rather smart move, Republic Wireless is going after the carrier with the most momentum right now. Currently, T-Mobile is racking up subscribers with their ETF Freedom promo and their ultra low cost family plans. RW is being smart though, attacking T-Mobile’s voice only plan which is priced at $35. Republic offers a voice and text plan only at $10 a month, or $25 less than T-Mobile’s offering. That said, RW is certainly skirting the issue of the actual cost of the plans as you are required to pick up a new Moto X for $300 from Republic to use this new lower cost plan. With T-Mobile, you can simply grab a $20-40 flip phone or a lower cost Android handset and offset the monthly cost significantly. Overall, both plans are a major victory for Talk & Text fans everywhere, though we prefer to go with the $24.99 Spot Mobile plan that uses the same T-Mobile network and a nice Nokia Lumia 521 phone for under $100 for even more savings.
By The Numbers:
Republic Wireless: $299 device + $120 service = $419 over 12 months = $34.92 per month
T-Mobile: $97.99 device + $420 service = $517.99 over 12 months = $43.17 per month
Spot Mobile: $97.99 device + $299.88 service = $397.87 over 12 months = $33.15 per month
