BGR is reporting today that AT&T will be increasing its $18 “handset upgrade fee” to an industry standard $36 fee. Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have all had the same fee level for sometime now, but now even Ma Bell, the last of the holdouts, has pulled the plug on letting users upgrade for under a Jackson. The changes are slated to take effect on February 12.
There is also a report that all “advanced devices” will also carry a $350 early termination fee, again bringing AT&T inline with the rest of the industry. No official word has come out yet from AT&T, but expect to see this the next time you head in to your local store. If you are due for that upgrade, we’d suggest heading in this weekend before you’re out an extra one of those Jacksons.
