Review: Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid 3

Usually when a new phone is announced as replacing an aging device, there’s not a whole lot new to let people know about. This is not the case with the Droid 3 from Motorola on Verizon Wireless. Though the Droid 4 has been announced, the Droid 3 is far from a slouch when you take a look at the specs on this dual-core text machine. Sporting a 5 row QWERTY keyboard, 4″ display and an 8MP/1080p camera on the rear, the Droid 3 still measures up quite nicely. Then, you tag it with a special offer and a free price tag, you have a serious deal on your hands.

On the face of the device, you have a very solid 4″ qHD display. You add to that a decent front facing camera for video chats and you have a very clean look to the front of the device. The slider opens up a spacious 5 row, yes the numbers have a dedicated row, keyboard with very little wasted space.  The 16GB of built-in memory will give you plenty of internal storage for Apps and high speed video recording. The MicroSD slot accommodates an additional 32GB card if you need more storage. The standard battery delivers 9.2 hours of talk time, though we found real world usage more around the level of 6-8 hours. Performance in a nutshell on the Droid 3 is very good, without some of the 2012 bells and whistles attached.

The Droid 3 is the perfect smartphone for the heavy texter that loves the feel of a full QWERTY keyboard and doesn’t mind the slight bit of extra bulk that it requires. The keys are a bit flat, but most users will adjust quickly from other physical keyboards. Overall, the Droid 3 is a fantastic bargain at this price. Then you add in the special accessory pack from Getsmartphones.Info and it becomes an even better deal.

Some might ask what is missing from this device, and honestly the only critical piece would be that 4G LTE radio. But, since a large portion of outlying areas are still 4G-less, that’s not a huge issue at this point. Also, given the issues with the 4G handoff that most users are reporting, staying locked on 3G for another few years might be a good move. The Motorola Droid 3 is available with 2 year contract or renewal for FREE with a bonus accessory pack that includes a car mount and desktop dock for a limited time from Getsmartphones.Info. You can snag yours here today while supplies last.
